Olive
Olea europaea
It is a very long-lived medium-height tree or shrub.
It has a twisted trunk and dark gray wrinkle cortex.
The leaves are coriaceous and with smooth edges, silver-plated on the top.
The flowers are white and numerous.
The fruit is ovoid, first green, then violet-blackish.
During Pleistocene was widespread in its wild variant (Olea oleaster).

The garden of the museum is not born by chance. It wants to give a suggestion. The walk that crosses recalls the path of a river and, on its "banks", there are some plants that existed already in Pleistocene. Almost all are still part of Mediterranean and temperate environments that characterize the Italian peninsula.
